Before the repairs

Dry rot, collapsed ceilings and rotten roof timbers — this is how the hermitage looked before the first money for its rescue was found.

Carpentry

The new beams were hewn by hand, exactly as in the 18th century: a line is struck on the log with a cord, the wood is roughed out with an axe and finished with a broadaxe.

The bell turret and the chimneys, 2020

By the end of 2020 the hermitage had all three of its chimneys back after six years, and the little bell turret over the corridor had been repaired.

Masonry and volunteers

The wall tops taken down because of dry rot are being rebuilt by hand from local materials. For several years volunteers from The Friends of Czech Heritage have helped us, led by Filip Trunečka.
